Cookie Notice

One cookie. For your theme.

We are not in the business of tracking you across the internet. Today axk.org sets a single first-party cookie to remember whether you want the site in light mode or dark mode. That is the whole story. If that ever changes, this page changes with it.

01 · What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. The next time you visit, your browser sends the file back to the site that created it. Cookies make it possible for a web page to remember things about you between visits — that you are signed in, that you prefer a particular language, that you have already dismissed a banner. They can also, when used by advertising and analytics platforms, be used to track behaviour across many sites at once.

This page explains which of those uses apply to axk.org. Because we believe a cookie notice should describe what is actually happening on the site rather than recite generic categories, it is shorter than most.

02 · What we set today

At the time this notice was last reviewed, axk.org sets exactly one cookie:

NamePurposeTypeLifetime
axk-themeRemembers whether you chose light or dark mode.Essential · first-party1 year

We do not currently set any analytics cookies, advertising cookies, social-media cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. We do not embed pixels, beacons, or fingerprinting scripts. There is no consent banner on the site because the only cookie we set is strictly necessary to honour a preference you actively chose.

03 · What we may set in future

At some point we may add limited, privacy-respecting analytics so that we can understand which documentation pages are useful and which need rewriting. If we do, we will:

  • list each new cookie in the table above before it goes live;
  • prefer cookieless or aggregate measurement tools (for example server-side analytics or a privacy-focused product such as Plausible or Fathom) over cookie-based ones;
  • show a consent prompt and decline by default in any jurisdiction that requires it, including the European Union and the United Kingdom.

We will not retrofit tracking onto this notice without telling you about it.

04 · Managing cookies in your browser

All modern browsers let you view, restrict, or delete cookies on a per-site basis. The exact path varies, but the relevant settings are typically found under Settings Privacy & Security. Quick links:

If you block or delete the axk-themecookie, the site will continue to work; it will simply forget your theme choice between visits and fall back to your operating system's light- or dark-mode preference.

05 · Opting out of future tools

When we introduce third-party measurement or marketing tools, you will be able to opt out at three levels. First, via the consent prompt we will show on first visit and on demand thereafter. Second, via your browser's built-in cookie controls described above. Third, via global signals: we will honour the Global Privacy Control header where it is set, and we will honour browser-level Do Not Track as a soft signal of preference even though it is not a legally binding instruction on its own.
